SWIM, COFFEE, CHAT was founded by Lee Murphy and Jason Dorahy in 2021. Longtime friends, Lee and Jason frequently met up for swimming, coffee, and conversations. During the second COVID-19 shutdown, they both experienced periods of  being unable to work, leading to daily meetings for their regular swim, coffee, and chat sessions. Enjoying these gatherings immensely, they began inviting friends, and forming the Cronulla Gropers, an associate group of SWIM, COFFEE, CHAT.

The Cronulla Gropers expanded their presence through Facebook and Instagram, encouraging other men to join. As a result, the group rapidly grew, attracting new members daily. By 2024, they had surpassed 240 members, continuing to expand as more individuals joined to SWIM, COFFEE, CHAT.

As SWIM, COFFEE, CHAT has evolved, it has increasingly focused on educational initiatives to empower its members with the knowledge and skills to support their families, friends, and the broader community who may be beginning or experiencing challenges with their Mental Health or other day to day challenges of life.
